I have never flown on Vistara, the Indian airline that jets to about 50 destinations in 12 countries, but if I ever do, I’m looking forward to enjoying Vistara World, the wireless in-flight entertainment.
I too, admire Vistara’s self-awareness and honesty. Avis made a career out of proclaiming themselves to be No. 2. So, Vistara can aim to climb 18 spots, and then they’re golden.
What's interesting to me is that Vistara is mostly competing against other Indian airlines. They could have said "India's top-ranked airline for in-flight entertainment" or something like that.
As a nervous wreck of a flyer, I’m more impressed with who ranks highest in completed safety landing statistics rather than entertainment. Who cares about entertainment? IM FLYING IN THE SKY !!!!! If that’s not enough, bring a book for gods sake.
In-flight entertainment was a bigger deal in the past -- when we didn't have own devices to entertain us. I try to download short stories and articles that I can read without relying on Wi-Fi.
Marketers have devised many different ways to elevate their products with deceptive statistics - the most deceptive being relative improvements, i.e. some drug lowers your xx risk by 50% - which is basically meaningless if the underlying risk is minimal - think of Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber, commenting on one in a million, "so there is a chance." I applaud Vistara for their unadorned honesty. I came across a restaurant whose singn proudly noted, "we are better than we have to be." That level of honestly is very rare!

Good point about the drug stats. The Jim Carey meme will live forever!
